(NYT30) NEW YORK -- December 18, 2006 -- SCI-BRAIN-LASER-4 -- Dr. David Langer, a neurosurgeon at St. Luke's Roosevelt hospital in New York City on Dec. 12, 2006. In assistance with Dutch Dr. Cornelis Tulleken, Dr. Langer performed a bypass procedure on Chris Ratuszny, 26, which was done to bypass a brain aneurysm. The ELANA technique was used, which stands for excimer laser-assisted nonocclusive anastomosis, uses a laser catheter for the bypass. (Todd Heisler/The New York Times)
