(NYT1) NEW YORK -- April 7, 2004 -- TIMES-SQUARE-1-B&W -- Longacre Square, now known as Times Square, in 1896. At center is where No. 1 Times Square was later built housing the famous news ticker and from which the ball drops to usher in the new year. Thursday, April 8, 2004 marks the 100th anniversary that New York City renamed the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue Times Square, after the newspaper that was completing its new headquarters at Broadway and 42nd Street.
