(NYT1) WAYNE, N.J. -- Feb. 9, 2007 -- NJ-PITCHER-HOMECOMING -- Steven Domalewski's sister Arlene and aunt Marie Fullerton with welcome signs for Steven at his home in Wayne, Feb. 1, 2007. On June 6, while Steven, then 12, was pitching for his baseball team, a ball struck him in the chest in such a way that his heart stopped, a rare condition called commotio cordis. Despite the immediate efforts of some spectators, Steven's brain did not receive sufficient oxygen for what doctors estimated to be about 15 minutes. Domalewski will return home soon after months in the hospital. (Richard Perry/The New York Times)
