(NYT7) SAN GERMAN, Puerto Rico -- June 1, 2006 -- PUERTO-RICO-SOUTH-1 -- The 1607 Porta Coeli church, at right, in February, 2006. The church is in the town of San Germ?n, known for its colonial architecture, and cobblestone streets. Most visitors to the commonwealth gravitate to the San Juan region, on the island's north coast; many trek eastward to the resorts in Rio Grande and Fajardo or take a day trip to El Yunque rain forest. But the south-end of the island remains relatively unvisited, and it feels beautifully remote. (Alex Quesada/The New York Times)
