Moore, chairwoman of Time Inc., in her office in Manhattan on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005. Moore stresses John Huey's role in picking top assistants. Among favorites is Martha Nelson, People's managing editor. Time Inc., a division of Time Warner, the world's largest media company, is to announce today that John Huey, 57, Time Inc.'s editorial director 57, will succeed Norman Pearlstine, 63, as editor-in-chief, on Jan. 1. This makes Huey the sixth editor-in-chief of the storied magazine empire since Henry R. Luce published the first issue of Time in 1923 (though Luce did not assume the title of editor in chief until the 1940s). (Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times)
