The executives at Time Warner's headquarters in New York on Friday, Sept. 30, 2005. One thing Bewkes and Logan have in common is an analytical mind that instantly deconstructs business problems into numerical equations. They have had more than their share to work through. In the three years since they were elevated by Time Warner's chairman and chief executive, Parsons, into their current roles as his deputies -- Bewkes is in charge of movies and television, Logan oversees publishing, cable and online properties -- they have tried to steer the world's largest media company through the staggering mess left by its 2000 merger with America Online, not to mention an industry fraught with technological change and competitive threats.
