(NYT24) LAS VEGAS -- Oct. 2, 2005 -- STORM-VOICES -- Garrett Hebert, 21 at the Boulder Station Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Sept. 9, 2005. Hebert, who was a pastry chef in New Orleans, hasn't settled on his next step. Once he replaces his waterlogged car and helps his parents reclaim their submerged home, he said, he is going to take to the open road for the first time in his life. See a bit of the country and get some distance from his parents, a firefighter in New Orleans and a hospital lab technician. (Monica Almeida/The New York Times)
