(NYT4) NEW YORK -- March 17, 2005 -- TOYS-R-US -- The Toys "R" Us store in New York's Times Square in 2001. Toys "R" Us, once the most powerful toy seller in the country, said Thursday, March 17, 2005 that it had agreed to sell its worldwide operations to a team of two private equity firms and a real estate developer. The investment group will acquire the company's faster-growing baby supplies division, Babies "R" Us, as well as the 640 Toys "R" Us stores. But in the end, the sale may be as much about real estate as toys. (Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times)
