(NYT16) VENICE, Calif. -- May 22, 2005 -- SKATEBOARD-MOVIE -- Catherine Hardwicke, right, who directed the film "Lords of Dogtown," and Stacy Peralta, who wrote the screenplay about three skateboarders who transformed the sport in Venice, Calif., on Friday, May 12, 2005. The film tells a relatively simple story of three skateboard originiators, Peralta, Tony Alva and Jay Adams, and their friendship and rivalry as they discovered the excitement of ever-more challenging skating stunts -- notably when they began riding the walls of empty pools during a Southern California drought -- and began inspiring a generation of skaters who followed their lead.
