(NYT15) CLYDE, N.C. -- May 21, 2005 -- TENN-NATIONAL-GUARD -- Sgt. Daryell H. Ledford and his wife, Deborah, are pictured outside their home in Clyde, N.C., on Nov. 6, 2004. Ledford, a crane operator, spent four years on active duty and joined the National Guard in 1989. He was surprised when he visited a bar outside Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg, Miss., and saw college students spending $80 and $90 on drinks.
