(NYT39) SALT LAKE CITY -- June 30, 2004 -- IRAQ-MARINE-ENCLAVE-3 -- Muslims pray at the Khadeeja Mosque in Salt Lake City, Utah on Tuesday, June 29, 2004. At Salt Lake City's three mosques, supplications have become standard since Sunday, June 27, 2004, when news came of Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun's capture in Iraq by extremists who have threatened to behead him. The Muslim population of Utah has grown rapidly, to about 25,000, most of whom arrived in the last decade in the wake of conflicts around the world that in some cases involved ethnic cleansing of Muslims.
