(NYT35) NEW YORK -- June 25, 2004 -- BOWERY-FLOPHOUSE-3 -- George, the last resident of the Stevenson Hotel on the Bowery in Manhattan, walking down the long flight of stairs that leads from the floor where his room is to the street, June 24, 2004. Being the last man living in one of the last flophouses on the Bowery has its benefits. No wait for a shower or a toilet. No sounds of casual sex coming from the other side of the wall. No need to keep an eye out anymore for Juliano, that big bully in stall No. 36. Juliano died about a year ago, bequeathing to George, 74, the odd status as sole inhabitant of the Stevenson Hotel.
