(NYT35) CHICAGO -- June 29, 2004 -- AIRLINES-LABOR -- United Airlines agents with passengers at an e-ticket kiosk at O'Hare airport in Chicago on Monday, June 28, 2004. Employees have already yielded $2.5 billion worth of pay and benefits. The hottest seats in the airline industry this summer will be at the bargaining table, where labor leaders and company executives now face an agonizing choice: wait or leap. But there is no knowing how quickly United will reach a deal, or even if the employees will be prepared to cooperate at all. Those uncertainties and the brutal competition in the industry make leaping attractive, analysts said Tuesday. (Peter Thompson/The New York Times)
