(NYT55) YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. -- July 2, 2004 -- YOSEMITE-SIERRA-CLUB -- The LeConte Memorial Lodge in Yosemite National Park, July 1, 2004. Even within the Sierra Club, the Le Conte Memorial Lodge, a library and education center, a fairy-tale looking building of granite boulders and redwood beams was somewhat unknown until recently. In a park that receives more than three million visitors a year, 15,000 or so make it to Le Conte. But the three days of centennial events have come to carry significance far beyond the lodge's reach, drawing renewed attention to a political struggle between the liberal Sierra Club and one of its staunchest conservative critics in Congress, Rep. George P. Radanovich of California. (Peter DaSilva/The New York Times.)
