(NYT52) NEW YORK -- Oct. 27, 2004 -- BARON-MARKETPLACE -- Ronald Baron, chairman & CEO of Baron Capital and portfolio manger of Baron Partners, in his office in Manhattan on March 29, 2004. Some of the biggest names in corporate America have been tarnished and toppled in recent years, but Baron remains a true believer. Baron, who manages $8 billion in mutual funds bearing his name, says he invests by looking for chief executives with big ideas to aggressively increase the scale of their businesses. By identifying these companies early, he hopes to triple or quadruple the value of his funds' investments as the businesses grow. (Chester Higgins Jr./The New York Times)
