(NYT4) NEW YORK -- Feb. 12, 2001 -- SCI-SCIENCE-MUSIC-2 -- Last week, the use of the piano as an instrument of the mind and the heart was made abundantly clear at a concert and panel discussion, titled "Polymaths and the Piano," at Caspary Hall at Rockefeller University in New York. Eight talented amateur pianists who happen to earn their livings as doctors, mathematicians, biologists and computer scientists presented a program of music whose intricate, elegant compositions are most often compared with mathematics.
