(NYT2) NEW YORK -- Feb. 11, 2001 -- PRIVACY-OFFICERS-1 -- As the chief privacy officer of DoubleClick, the biggest Internet advertising company, Jules Polonetsky, center, has the authority to rip up contracts with companies that do not comply with DoubleClick's rules for protecting consumer privacy. In recent weeks, Polonetsky says, he has cut off a half-dozen clients whose sites did not meet DoubleClick's criteria. Polonetsky, the chief privacy officer of DoubleClick, the Internet company, discusses issues with Mary Anne Liss, of the New York Internet Chamber of Commerce, and other members of a roundtable on privacy.
