(NYT16) NEW YORK -- Feb. 9, 2001 -- ROOSEVELT-MEMORABILIA -- One of the largest private hoards of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt's papers, books and heirlooms will be auctioned at Christie's in New York, next week, despite pleas from National Park Service officials, historians and some members of the Roosevelt family that the items be preserved for the public. The more than 3,000 items in the Roosevelt collection are expected to bring $1.2 million to $1.8 million. Prospective buyers at a reception at Christie's this week looked over some of the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt heirlooms to be auctioned. (Keith Meyers/The New York Times)
