The Oscar Romero school for deaf children is one of only a handful of specialist, privately run, schools for children with disabilities in Liberia. The residential school, supported by charity Marys Meals, has 47 pupils from primary to secondary with a new intake of 15 planned this semester. Marys Meals, a UK based NGO has been supporting the school since it opened several years ago. I became interested in deaf children when I was 12 and living in Monrovia. There was ?deaf school near me and I used to watch these children communicating with each other in sign language. I wanted to know what they were saying so I asked one of them to teach me.
