FEATHERY FACE-OFF! An owl and kestrel come into conflict as they settle a dispute over their territory. The short battle was observed between the juvenile kestrel and a little owl over a canyon in Negev, Israel. David Manusevich said, ÒThese young individuals are fighting over territory but it looks like they are only threatening each other, I havenÕt seen any interaction where they actually hurt one another. I saw this owl and suddenly the kestrel flew in and they were fighting for 4 or 5 seconds and then they flew out in different directions shouting for some time. In this battle, there were no winners. Such conflicts occur maybe two or three times a day without injuries on both sides.Ó ÒThese fights usually happen between young species while owl mothers watch them and in some cases interfere, causing the kestrel to leave the arena quickly.Ó Please byline: David Manusevich/Solent News © David Manusevich/Solent News & Photo Agency UK +44 (0) 2380 458800 *** Local Caption *** It was taking in the south of Israel in the canyon.
