Transmission electron micrograph of the Golgi apparatus in nurse cells from the testes of the insect Oniscus. In this image, the fenestrated outermost cistern appears relatively empty, but there is a progressive increase in the density of the succeeding cisternae. Those near the inner face are exceedingly dense. This is consistent with the interpretation that the product is concentrated and modified in its passage through the Golgi apparatus.
