Mozambique, Zambezia, 16 May 2013 A boy warms himself next to a fire of burning Pearl Millet stems. Hoyo Hoyo, a Portuguese owned agribusiness, moved onto land in Ruasse, Gurue, Zambezia cleared some years ago by local people. They came with permission from the government and with promises of money, jobs, and facilities for the local people. Many farmers, some willingly, others under protest, lost their lands. The compensation for the land, for many, was never or only partly delivered. Hoyo Hoyo now grows soy beans ploughing the land and processing the crop with large farm machinery. Just across the road from the large farm in the villages of Liberdade and Sede-Nova, the former farmers live in poverty, many must now work on other farmers land as labourers. Robin Hammond / NOOR
