Story from Jam Press (Monkey CPR) Pictured: A grab from a video showing the moment a squirrel monkey was resuscitated by a firefighter after suffering an electric shock. VIDEO: Hero firefighter brings squirrel monkey back to life with CPR Heartwarming footage shows how a hero firefighter brought a squirrel monkey back to life after it suffered an electric shock. The little primate was seen motionless as the officer gave it CPR by pushing on its chest. Eventually, the monkey starts moving its head and blinks its eyes. The firefighter stops pushing on its chest as it’s able to move all of its body again. He points to the monkey’s pulsating torso to show it’s breathing normally and its heart is beating. It’s eventually released onto a tree branch as the footage ends. Firefighters resuscitated the monkey after it suffered an electric shock on Wednesday (4 Sep). It happened as it was fleeing a fire in a forested area of the National Institute of Amazonian Research in Manaus, Brazil. The Amazonas Military Fire Department said the primate went into cardiac arrest after coming into contact with electrical wiring. It was found unresponsive in the middle of a public road and the emergency services were called. After being revived, it was returned to the forest at Inpa, as reported by NeedToKnow. The firefighters also tackled the blaze, the cause of which is still unknown. Squirrel monkeys live in riverside forests in the Guianas and the Amazon River basin. They are known for being particularly vocal, as well as being agile jumpers and runners. Because they are gentle and clean, they were often kept as pets in the US until the practice was outlawed in the 1970s.
