Armenie, Gyumri, 29-01-2007 Student Artur and his mother live in a domik since the family lost its house in 1988. His mother is teacher but doesn't earn enough money to rent a decent house. "Cold in winter, hot in summer and when it rains we need an umbrella inside", says Artur. "I don't care about the future of Armenia. Armenia doesn't care about me." In december 1988 an earthquake destroyed almost the whole of northern Armenia. Thousands of people lost their houses. The Soviet-Union promised new homes, and provided temporary living containers and "domiks", "little houses". But after the collapse of the Soviet-Union, the help program was suddenly stopped. Today, hundreds of families in Gyumri, Spitak and Vanadzor still live in misery and unhygienic circumstances in their containerhouses. They lack water and energy, and often live with the whole family in two or three "rooms". Support to these poor people doesn't seem to be a priority for the government.
