Armenie, Vanadzor, 31-01-2007 The family Khatcharyan lives with 10 children in a two-roomed "domik", Russian for "little house", in Vanadzor, formerly known as Kiruvakan. Two children have been given to an orphanage because the parents could'nt afford raising all of their children. Every month they have to survive with just a 100 euro. In december 1988 an earthquake destroyed almost the whole of northern Armenia. Thousands of people lost their houses. The Soviet-Union promised new homes, and provided temporary living containers and "domiks", "little houses". But after the collapse of the Soviet-Union, the help program was suddenly stopped. Today, hundreds of families in Gyumri, Spitak and Vanadzor still live in misery and unhygienic circumstances in their containerhouses. They lack water, decent toilets and energy, and often live with the whole family in two or three "rooms". Support to these poor people doesn't seem to be a priority for the government.
