Old friends meeting
HEART-WARMING images of two polar bears appearing to greet each other with a warm handshake have been captured.
Pictures show the snow-white bears happy to be in each other’s company, hugging and engaging in a little friendly sparring at Hudsons' Bay surrounding the Churchill River in Canada.
Polar Bears congregate on the tundra close to Hudson’s Bay because it is where the bay will freeze over first.
The bears congregate here to hunt seals and consume the first substantial meal they would have had in months.
It is one of the rare occasions where the normally solitary male Polar bear meets up with other bears.
Play fighting is thought to contribute to establishing hierarchies, and practices for hunting and helps the bears stay strong and alert.
These images were captured by Johnny Hayward, a wildlife photographer and a Polar Bear Tour Guide from British Columbia, Canada.
“While photographing, we can not approach the bears any closer than 300 feet but they are free to close the distance,” he told mediadrumworld.com.
“Since I am a bear guide I have to make sure that these apex predators don’t get too close as they are ultimate hunters despite being so cute looking.
“Each encounter is emotional knowing how climate change is affecting the ice packs that they rely on to hunt.
“I love these animals so much and want the world to know more about them.”
