Nial Ramirez, who was sterilized at 18 after she gave birth to her daughter as part of North Carolina's former eugenics program and says she thought she had no choice, at her apartment in Union City, Ga., Nov. 30, 2011. In 1973, with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union, Ramirez became the first person to file a lawsuit against the state eugenics board, but through she received a settlement, she says no amount could make it right.
