Germany, Berlin, 08 March 2016 53 year old refugee and former business owner Akram Koujer was born in Afrim, Syria and arrived in Germany in November. Akram had owned a jeans design factory in Syria before leaving because of the war. Akram is sleeping in a school sports hall that has been transformed into a Notunterkunft (emergency shelter) for 150 refugees in the centre of Berlin. It is run by non-governmental organization miGes - Migration, Integration und Gesundheit. A variety of nationalities including Syrians, Iraqis, Afghans, Russians, Pakistanis are housed there. It is meant to be an emergency shelter for people in transition to a more permanent arrangement, but some have been here for six months. Robin Hammond / NOOR
