Sifaka hopping away with the baby. MADAGASCAR CAPTIVATING images of a sifaka carrying her baby while throwing some serious shapes on the dancefloor have been captured from just 13 feet away. The funny images show a Sifaka mum bonding with her little baby who is stuck to her mum like glue. Mum is seen leaping from a tree, jumping up into a pirouette as well as taking some time out to rest and snuggle. Other pictures show the few weeks-old sifaka peeking through its mother’s embrace and taking in all its surroundings at Berenty National Park, south of Madagascar. Verreaux's sifakas or white sifakas mothers give birth to only one offspring per year between June and September. The average birth weight is 40 grams and the mothers carry young close to their abdomen and chest for the first two to three months of the offspring's life. Young sifakas reach adult size at 21 months and are sexually mature by two and a half years old. These delightful images of the Sifaka family were snapped by a Russian wildlife photographer, Andrey Gudkov (53) from Moscow. “Berenty National Park is one of the few places in Madagascar where you can safely photograph these animals in their natural habitat,” he told mediadrumworld.com. “You just need to wait for them to calm down and get used to your presence enough to let you come close to them. “I was able to get as close as 13 feet. “You need to be able to understand their behaviour during the day and not make any sudden movements or sounds while they are in the vicinity. “With the world changing rapidly and many animal species getting lost to them, we are fortunate to still have few places left on the planet where we can observe animals, including rare animals, in their natural habitat. “Madagascar is one of those rare places. “Photographers see a little more than ordinary tourists. “Therefore, our task is to show the world and other people all the power and beauty of nature, while there is still such an opportunity.” ENDS
