The adorable baby rhino calf UK HEARTWARMING pictures show a baby rhino being a true ‘mini-me’ by emulating its mum. Images show the southern white rhino calf adoring and being adored by its loving mum. The baby is seen sticking close to its mum and mimicking her actions as well as running around and exploring his surroundings at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire. At only a few months old the baby rhino seems content in its surroundings and is clearly enjoying life with the rest of the crash. White rhinos are the second-largest land mammal reaching the height of five to six feet as adults and weighing around 3,080-7,920 lbs. Two genetically different subspecies exist the northern and southern white rhino, and are found in two different regions in Africa. As of March 2018, there are only two rhinos of the northern white rhino left, both of which are female. Southern white rhinos were thought to be extinct in the late 19th century, but in 1895 a small population of fewer than 100 individuals was discovered in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. After more than a century of protection and management, they are now classified as ‘near threatened’ and around 18,000 animals exist in protected areas and private game reserves. These adorable images were captured by Nikki Rowley-Todd, a British wildlife photographer from Bedfordshire. “I was so happy to see this baby rhino, it was especially lovely to watch him running around and climbing on the older rhinos,” she told mediadrumworld.com. “Even in captivity, seeing how free and wild the baby was and felt made my heart melt. “The mother was very affectionate towards her calf and kept a watchful eye on him wherever he went.” ENDS
