Jackdaws appear to whisper into a deer's ear. The black birds perched themselves on the animal's head which they often do to pick ticks and fleas from its fur. Paul Browning took these pictures during the annual deer rut in Bushy Park, London. Describing them, the 44 year old from Camberley, Surrey, said: "The relationship the deer have with the Jackdaws - and Starlings sometimes - just fills me full of joy to photograph. SEE OUR COPY FOR DETAILS Please byline: Paul Browning/Solent News © Paul Browning/Solent News & Photo Agency UK +44 (0) 2380 458800 *** Local Caption *** 1. When and where were these pictures taken? Bushy Park, London during the annual deer rut ( which is roughly between end of September to end of October ) 2. Can you describe what it was like to take these shots? ItÕs always fun to see two different species of wildlife working together in symbiosis , and itÕs not that common to see. The relationship the deer have with the Jackdaws ( and Starlings sometimes ) just fill me full of joy to photograph. The deer let them pick the fleas and ticks from them, and also during nesting season the jackdaws will take fur to build their nests. 3. Were you waiting for a while and did they mind your presence? IÕm usually at the park for sunrise and once I find the deer , if they are stationary or resting IÕll set up my tripod and try to catch some unique or interesting moments. They can get tired from rounding up the females, defending a territory and fighting with other stags so itÕs common to find them resting in the bushes or long grass. 4. Have you seen this behaviour before? Why do they do this? Do you think the deer are bothered by the jackdaws?! See answer 2 - maybe break that up for here ? 5. What is your favourite thing about the shots? I love the cheekiness of the jackdaws , an almost fearless behaviour to start pulling ticks from a huge deerÕs eye lid knowing thereÕs no repercussions. ItÕs very Ò Disney -esqueÓ 6. Any other info we may like to know? ItÕs important to say that I have been photographing deer for many years and at this time of year it can be very dangerous around the stags, having a friend keep watch around you and keeping at least 30 metres from them is very important.
