Rachel and Avraham Kolberg have brought Iyengar yoga from India to Israel's ultra Orthodox community. In a small village South West of Jerusalem they have established their centre where, on a daily basis, practice and teach yoga to the Orthodox Jewish community. Avraham was born in Israel in 1974 while Rachel was born in former USSR and spent her childhood in Moscow. As a child and teen, she practiced professional gymnastics regularly with the National Gymnastic Team in Russia. In 1990, after the fall of the Iron Curtain, Rachel along with her family immigrated to Israel. Avraham studied Arts and Photography and then, after serving in the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) joined a course in Transcendental Meditation and started practicing yoga. Rachel and Avraham married in 1997 and since then have been involved in yoga as a couple. They have been spending long periods of time in India where intensely studied Iyengar yoga and in 2001, after one of those journey, Avraham started observing Jewish Chasidism and gradually became an Orthodox Jew. Both Avraham and Rachel hold Iyengar yoga instructor certificates and constantly go through exams in order to keep those and be entitled to teach.?
