Anna Botsford Comstock (1854-1930), US naturalist, born Anna Botsford. Botsford was raised on a farm in Otto, New York State, USA. In 1874, she entered Cornell University, where she met the entomologist John Henry Comstock (1849-1931), marrying him in 1878. Anna Botsford Comstock illustrated insect lectures and publications produced by her husband, at first with no formal training, and then after studying wood engraving. She also illustrated and wrote several other nature books. From 1895, she planned and implemented nature study courses for schools, and from 1897 taught nature studies at Cornell University. She was the first woman to be a professor at Cornell. Photograph published between 1904 and 1924.
