Cueva del moro in Zahara de los Atunes Costa de la Luz, Cadiz Province, Andalusia. The Cueva del Moro located in Tarifa (Cádiz). It belongs to the set of rock art called Arte Sureño, which is located in the south of Andalusia and represents the southernmost Paleolithic Sanctuary on the European continent. The cave is located on a sandstone slab that at its base preserves the remains of an old cork oak forest. It is a large shelter that consists of two superimposed floors and is formed by wind erosion and corrosion, which is characteristic of the siliceous sandstones of the Campo de Gibraltar mountain ranges Areniscas del Aljibe. Inside there are engravings of horses, along with other signs and red cave paintings. The Paleolithic figures, discovered by Lothar Bergmann in 1994, are around 20,000 years old (Upper Paleolithic, Solutrean). Due to its exceptional characteristics, the impressive engraving of a pregnant mare draws attention. It is the largest figure in the cave, as it is 1.08 m long and 78 cm high. The Paleolithic Art of the Cueva del Moro, made by hunter-gatherer tribes, stands out above all for its naturalistic-style animal figures. The main feature of these figures is the representation of the silhouette in side view. In the cave there are also cave paintings that form several sets of points. One of these is made up of hundreds of points and represents the largest group in the province of Cádiz.
