A Ferrari 275 GTB, once owned by Hollywood legend Jane Fonda and her then husband, French film director Roger Vadim, is up for private sale. This iconic vehicle, chassis number 08641, boasts a glamourous history, having been used by the jetsetting Hollywood couple while freewheeling around the French Riviera. It has undergone a full restoration to its original splendour. The car was purchased by Vadim in June 1966 from Franco-Britannic Autos in Paris, Ferrari’s official distributor. Finished in Azzurro (blue) over a Nero (black) leather interior, the left-hand-drive vehicle was built late in the production run and features long-nose steel bodywork, a torque tube, and triple Weber carburettors. Registered initially in Vadim’s name, the 275 GTB later became Fonda's when the registration documents were transferred to her later that summer. Contemporary photographs capture the couple, who married in 1965, with the car in Saint-Tropez, where they drew crowds of admirers, and in Paris in 1968, as Fonda left the hospital with their newborn daughter, Vanessa. After parting ways with Fonda and Vadim in late 1968, the car passed through several owners, including a French dealer and collector. It was repainted red, participated in motorsport events, and was driven by notable figures such as triple Olympic champion Jean-Claude Killy. By the 1980s, the car resided in Monaco before being sold to various collectors across France. Recently, the Ferrari underwent a meticulous restoration to return it to its original blue and black colour scheme. It has since received Ferrari Classiche certification, affirming the originality of its chassis, engine, and gearbox. The 275 GTB was a favourite among the Hollywood elite of its era, also gracing the garages of Steve McQueen and Miles Davis. With its ties to Fonda and Vadim, the car holds a unique place in the history of celebrity Ferraris. Presented in its original specification, this 275 GTB offers a rare opportunity to own a piece of motoring and Hollywood history. While perfectly suited for a concours lawn, it remains ideal for cruising the French Riviera, as it once did with its first star-studded owners. It is being sold by RM Sotheby's in a private sale, with price available upon request.
