Colombian police officials inspect a submarine in Facatativa, Colombia, 40kms west of Bogota, 07 September, 2000. Colombian police commandant Gen. Luis Gilibert said the submarine was being constructed for drug trafficking and would have been capable of carrying 150 to 200 tons of cargo plus 12 crew members. He added the vessel as it was found by police was worth five million USD and that another five million would be needed to complete it. Russian documents translated into Spanish were confiscated along with the vessel, which according to Gilibert were clues to a possible involvement of the Russian mafia in the project.
