Stage director, dramatist and novelist Pari Saberi was born in 1932. She studied drama abroad in France and Spain and founded the Pazargad Theatre upon her return to Tehran. She spent several years abroad after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The play she wrote and staged on the life of renowend Iranian poetess Forough Farrokhzad , presented at the 1981 Olympic Art Festival, won her international acclaim. She was awarded the French art and literature medal, Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, as well as Unesco's Avicenna Award for her stage performances.
