This combination of four images shows a widely distributed image (downL) on the Internet on May 2, 2011 of what Pakistani television described as an unconfirmed image of Osama bin Laden's bloodied face after the United States said he had been killed, and one (at downR) which is a horizontally inverted undated archive picture of the Al-Qaeda leader. The scanned photos correspond to the original photos directly below them. The photos were scanned using a programme called Tungstene which analyses and defines digital noise. In a photo that has not been manipulated, such as the one on the lower right, the level of noise is relatively uniform. In the image on the left, there is a high level of conflicting noise which suggests it was made from multiple elements. AFP PHOTO/HO
