Sudanese refugees from the Darfur region of Sudan, where government-supported Arab militias continue to attack and burn undefended villages, quench their thirst after UNHCR water distribution 27 June 2004 in Bahai, Chad. More than 150,000 refugees are sheltering in several camps along the Sudan-Chad border. One million people are at "imminent risk" for their lives in the Darfour region of western Sudan, a US spokesman said. Some 3,000 people have been killed in the rebellion which erupted last year over the region's economic neglect, and 670,000 more displaced within Sudan itself.
