The building is part of the sanctuary centered on the nymphaeum and dedicated to Augustus . However, its primary function is discussed. Its basilica plan excludes the fact that it is a Roman temple and the term "Diana" does not rely on any archaeological or historical data known to date 1 . He was able to house a library . The building dates from the time of Augustus , the facade having probably been redeveloped during the second century. In the Middle Ages it houses a monastery , which explains its conservation. In the eighteenth century he inspired many romantics, including Hubert Robert . Today, it is accessible from the gardens of La Fontaine . The temple of Diana is the subject of a classification as historical monuments by the list of 1840 2 .
