The former home of one of BritainÕs greatest heroines is on the market for £3.5 million after being nursed back to health with a loving restoration.
Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing, brilliant statistician and iconic Lady of the Lamp in the Crimean War, grew up and lived in this stunning house near Matlock, in Derbyshire.
Lea Hurst was in the Nightingale family right up until the end of the 1940s and then was sold off and used as a retirement home until the beginning of this century.
Despite being an institution for more than 50 years the fabric of the house remained remarkably untouched and has since been lovingly restored by the Kay family who bought the property in 2011.
Former banker and now resort developer Peter Kay spent around £1 million lovingly restoring a house once lived in by one of the nationÕs most-beloved figures in what he describes as a real Òpassion projectÓ.
