Croatia, Osijek, 09 November 2017 83 year old Stjepan Getto stayed in an institution for 27 years before being given an apartment in the town of Osijek, Croatia in 24 December 2014. He lives with his wife who he met in the institution. They married in 2016. They had been in a relationship for 15 years. He entered the institution voluntarily to tackle his battle with alcoholism. The only solution offered by social welfare at the time. Stjepan could have left the institution any time, but there was never a realistic option where he could live in the community but still have the mental health support he felt he needed. Talking about life in the apartment compared to life in the institution he says ??sI have freedom here.
