Indonesia’s Ministry of Health launched the Biomedical & Genome Science Initiative (known as BGSi) in August 2022. The initiative coordinates biomedical projects, next generation sequencing machines, and biobank facilities across Indonesia with the aim of fighting disease, detecting future health threats and improving health care for communities across the country. The Global Fund has provided US$30 million in support to the initiative which includes support to 25 facilities and 26 machines in 18 provinces. The equipment supported through the Global Fund includes whole genome sequencers and auxiliary equipment such as refrigerators, bio-analyzers, liquid handling, IT equipment, reagents.
