Under the eye of a guerilla instructor, a group of youngsters undergo training with an assortment of weapons at Jijiga, Ethiopia on Sept. 30, 1977. According to guerrilla sources, the town - a large military base some 250 miles from Addis Ababa - was captured by forces of the Western Somalia Liberation Front, after two weeks of heavy fighting in late August. A rebel spokesman claimed that 12,000 Ethiopian soldiers were either killed, captured or wounded in battle. (AP Photo/Richard Tompkins)
