The cavalry of Portugal's National Guard has a unique mounted brass band which was created in 1942. It features various instruments including cavalry trumpets, flugelhorn and kettledrum. The cavalry, which consists of 130 white or piebald horses and 27 riders, take part in various official ceremonies and touristic events, including the Change of Guards at Belem's National Palace.
