March 4, 1952 -- Idle merchant seamen looked at a line of Jeeps waiting to be loaded onto ships at Caven Point Terminal in Jersey City. Five hundred union members walked out in a wildcat strike, "believed to have resulted from the ban last Monday night on employment of some unionists on near-by docks on the charge that they were hoodlums," The New York Times reported on March 5, 1952.
