First photo of sunken "USS Scorpion" (SSN589) - The Department of Defense released this picture in Washington, in January 1969, and described it as a view of the top of the bow section, from the vicinity of the sail (which has been torn off), at left,- to the tip of the bow, at top cente, the torpedo room hatch is visible about half-way along the length of this hull section, with a lifeline track running after from it, of the submarin Scorpion resting on the botton of the Atlantic Ocean floor 10,000 feet deep, 400 miles southwest of the Azores. The department said the hull of the missing submarin was located and photographed in more than 10,000 feet of water last Oct. 29, 1968, by the researche ship Mizar.
