Hikers walk on the former lakebed of Lake Mead near the Lake Mead Marina Saturday, Aug 6, 2022, in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area near Boulder City, Nevada. Historic low water levels at Lake Mead are marked by cracked mud, sand bars and and perhaps most vividly, mineral deposit, but perhaps most importantly, illustrate an ongoing drought and the possibility that even lower levels could halt electrical generation at the Hoover Dam at a future date.
