Children walk through Pagirinya settlement on 23 September 2016. UNHCR says Uganda has progressive policies towards refugees, allotting them land to farm vegetables that can later be sold for additional income, as well as materials to build a shelter. Pagirinya refugee settlement in Adjumani district, Uganda, hosts more than 117,000 refugees from South Sudan. Since the escalation of violence in South Sudan in July, one million South Sudanese refugees have fled into neighboring countries, with over 373,000 in Uganda.
