Edmund Stoiber (R), CDU-CSU's chancellor candidate, cheers with CDU's president Angela Merkel on the opening of the October Feast, the famous German Beer festival, 21 September in Munich. Thousands of people attended the first day of the 169th festival, the largest in the world. Organisers expect six million visitors will attend the event which runs until 06 October.
